The
Central Balkan National Park lies in the heart of Bulgaria and
covers the highest portions of the Balkan Range. It was established in
1991 to protect, to the benefits of society, the unique nature of the
Central Stara Planina Range and the related traditions and livelihood.
Its total area is 71,669.5 h. The park contains unique wildlife and ecological
systems.
Almost ?ne third of the park territory is taken by nine venerable nature
reserves – Boatin, Tsarichina, Steneto, Dzhendema, Severen Dzhendem,
kozya Stena, Stara Reka, Peeshti Skali and Sokolna.
Since 2003 Central Balkan National Park has joined the PAN Parks European
Network, which is a recognition for its preserved wildlife and effective
management. Along the marked and well-maintained routes one can immerse
into the enchanting world of the preserved wildlife. A set of specialized
and well-marked and maintained routes including equestrian and mountain
biking trails have been developed, as well as thematic routes for bird,
plant, and large mammal watching; culture and history, caving, photography,
alpine skiing and skiing.
Some of most tourist attractive eco-trails are: Byala Reka (Kalofer),
Vidimsko Praskalo (Aprilci), Babskoto Praskalo (village of Tazha), Beklemeto
– Orlovo Gnezdo, Following the trail of edelweiss (Chiflik), Troyan
pass (Beklemeto), Water holes (Aprilci), Following the footprints of the
Balkan people (Aprilci), Tzarichina (Ribarica).
